Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ageing Well Research Symposium

Country SA PHN had the pleasure of attending the South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ageing Well Research Symposium. The room was full of multiple professions, Elders and researchers. We first heard from the Wardliparingga Aboriginal Health Equity, Healthy Ageing and Aged Care Research Program.

We learnt from them about the Aboriginal-informed System Connector Model for Ageing Well. This model focuses on establishing connections and pathways between aged care, health care and social services systems aiming to provide timely access for older Aboriginal people.

Andrea Kelly, Interim First Nations Aged Care Commissioner, then shared an overview of her extensive road trips that took place between February and June 2024.  Andrea visited every corner of Australia to meet, yarn and listen to Elders’ voices.

Country SA PHN made many new connections, expanded our knowledge and we look forward to future networking.
