Discover how care finders are supporting remote communities like Andamooka to understand and access My Aged Care.
In early September, Janelle Hobbs, care finder at Country & Outback Health, Port Augusta, visited the remote community of Andamooka, 300kms north of Port Augusta. Janelle planned her visit in time with Services Australia’s, allowing them to jointly meet, educate and support the community to understand and access My Aged Care. Here is what Janelle said about the 2 days:
“On my recent trip to Andamooka, I was welcomed in a unique way, the Royal Flying Doctor Service had a car bonnet painted up to advertise our visit. It was such a great local touch and a reminder of the creativity and pride in this community.
During conversations with residents, a common theme came through, many people expressed that Andamooka often feels like a forgotten town. This really struck me, and it’s something we’re committed to changing.
To make sure the community feels supported and connected, we’ll be returning in November to continue building momentum and strengthening relationships. It’s important that Andamooka knows they are seen, heard, and valued”
Helen Morley, care finder lead, Country SA PHN said, “these joint regional sessions with Services Australia and often other key organisations, provide a vital ‘one-stop’ shop of information and support, especially for very remote communities like Andamooka. Care finders across all parts of country South Australia are really privileged to be invited to be part of these inclusive community sessions and super proud of the collaboration undertaken with the local community organisations to make them happen”
