Alcohol and Other Drugs for Primary Health Workshops 

Treating individuals and families affected by alcohol and drug use? Find out what services are available, explore some quick and effective tools and discuss what works and what could be improved to get better outcomes? 

This FREE workshop will cover:

  • commonly used drugs, their prevalence, effects and interventions to reduce harms 
  • an overview of the AOD treatment system in SA including the SA AOD Specialist Treatment Framework 
  • the role of primary health in supporting the treatment of AOD clients 
  • evidence based treatment types and settings 
  • the importance of language and minimising stigma 
  • comorbidity and complexity in relation to AOD clients 
  • services provided by AOD NGOs in your region
  • Q and A session 

The workshop Is designed for people wishing to learn more about alcohol and other drug issues faced by their clients. It is open to rural and regional GPs, practice nurses, hospital staff, primary health workers and AOD workers new to the field. This training can be self-recorded as a CPD Activity.

Presented by Michael White, Executive Officer, SA Network of Drug & Alcohol Services. Michael has worked in the AOD sector for over 14 years and in the NGO sector for over 30. He has a background in workforce development in AOD, child and family welfare and adult education.
