Alcohol and Other Drugs Treatment Services – data collection improvements

Country SA PHN Newsletter May 2025

As part of Country SA PHN’s commitment to high quality and effective alcohol and other drugs (AOD) primary care services, a new Minimum Data Set for services delivering Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Services has been introduced. The aim of this framework is to align data and evaluation activities to support the continued delivery of AOD primary care services which improve outcomes for people who experience AOD-related harms.

This includes the collection of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) and Patient Reported Experience Measures (PREMs).

  • PREMs measure a person’s experience of the health care services they receive, such as interactions with clinicians, feeling well supported, and involvement in decision making.
  • PROMs provide valuable information from a consumer’s perspective and enhance health care delivery through an improved understanding of various aspects of a person’s health and wellbeing, such as symptoms, daily functioning, and quality of life.

Collectively, this information will improve data collection and reporting requirements of commissioned AOD services, enabling improved monitoring of AOD services and client outcomes, as well as building an evidence base that will inform future AOD-related service planning.
