Debbie Timpano, Palliative Care Project Officer and Helen Morley, Care Finder Program Lead at Country SA PHN, had the privilege of joining the Elder Care Support Program State Yarning Circle recently. The two days started with a Welcome to Country by Robert Taylor, and an inspiring opening address from Nat Cooke, Minister for Human Services and Minister for Seniors & Ageing Well.
Debbie and Helen, with four other partner organisations, had the opportunity to share their work during workshop sessions with the Elder Care Support staff.
Helen said, “The care finder program and Elder Care Support Program have increasingly collaborated since 2023 when both programs commenced. The aged care navigation space is complex for older Australians, so to be able to learn from each other to do this better, and now see country SA care finders and Elder Care Support workers network locally is very rewarding.
“Providing extended knowledge to everyone in addition to aged care navigation, such as the palliative care work and resources supported by Debbie, really assists everyone to have a holistic approach to the support they can provide Elders in their community".
The Yarning Circle was immensely successful, and Country SA PHN look forward to maintaining the new connections made.
With our thanks to the Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia and South Australian West Coast ACCHO Network.
