Coeliac Awareness Week 13 – 20 March 2022

Coeliac Disease can be hard to spot, it’s a master of camouflage, it affects people from all over the world, young and old. Untreated, it can cause fatigue, brittle bones and even cancer.

One in 70 Australians have Coeliac Disease, yet 4 out of 5 people remain undiagnosed. (Coeliac Awareness Week, 2022).

HealthPathways SA supports health professionals in the assessment, diagnosis and management of Coeliac Disease via the following pathways and associated referral pages:

Providing a step-by-step guide, these pathways are designed to help primary care professionals navigate screening, provide stratified interventions and long-term management of patients with, or at risk of, Coeliac Disease.

The pathways include information on:

  • Background of the disease in adults and children
  • Assessment of symptoms and risk factors
  • Management of the disease
  • Referral information for further assessment

These pathways are based on the best available evidence and have been adapted according to the local South Australian context.
