Dr Ken Fielke will present this years Barton Pope Lecture

If the last 18 months has proven anything, it’s that taking care of our mental health is something we all need to make a priority. The impact of COVID has brought into focus the shortcomings in our mental health services.

While this may be a revelation for metropolitan residents, those in rural South Australia have known it for years. In 1994 a review concluded that, ‘We offer our sympathy to those who suffer from serious mental illness and to their relatives in rural South Australia. The situation reflects an awful neglect...Leave Adelaide and you leave behind mental health services’

In the past 25 years there have been some remarkable changes in mental health services in our State, but is the situation now ‘good enough’? What will mental health services look like in the future? Local boy Ken Fielke has spent more than 20 years supporting good mental health in regional SA. Join him as he talks about how we are all shaping that future and how to have ‘mental health for all’, everybody will have a role to play.

‘Life doesn’t make any sense without interdependence. We need each other, and the sooner we learn that, the better for us all.’—Erik Erikson.
