Pneumococcal Vaccination Recall Program

Streaky Bay is a town on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula situated 303 km north-west of Port Lincoln and 727 km by road from Adelaide with a population of approximately 2000 residents.

The Streaky Bay Medical Clinic recently participated in the GoShare Plus Pneumococcal Vaccination Recall Program for adults aged 70 years and older.  The initiative is being promoted to all general practices in country South Australia by the Primary Care and Digital Health Support team at Country SA PHN. This patient recall program enables General Practices to conduct an SMS recall of patients who are eligible for a free Pneumococcal vaccination, funded on the National Immunisation Program (NIP).

The SMS contains the practice name and contact number and a link to information to help the patient understand what pneumococcal pneumonia is, how it can affect them; and why they may be at increased risk.

The Streaky Bay Medical Clinic sent out the SMS to a total of 141 patients and in the 8 weeks after the SMS reminders were sent, 46 patients aged 70+ were vaccinated equating to 33% of patients who received the SMS.

“This is a fantastic result for a town with a small population and we congratulate the team at Streaky Medical Clinic for supporting their community with this initiative.” said Julie Di Rito, Manager of the Primary Care and Digital Health Support Team.

“We have had a positive uptake of the recall program throughout Country South Australia and hope more practices will register aiming to keep communities healthy and reduce hospitalisation admissions” she added.

The recall is available with no cost to the practice until the end of December 2024.  Please complete the online expression of interest form to register your interest.

Renmark Medical Clinic

Renmark Medical Clinic has been identified as the number one general practice in Australia for the number of different GoShare campaigns sent to patients supporting their community with recalls, reminders, and health literacy.

They recently registered for the GoShare Healthy Lifestyle Program and the Practice Manager provided great feedback:

“We have found GoShare easy to use. Their support and instructions are fantastic, and it has enabled us to be proactive with health information rather than reactive. With some additional doctors and available appointments, it has been great to use to utilize the appointment availability.”
