Health System Integration and Innovation - August 2025

Country SA PHN Newsletter August 2025

Attention clinicians: HealthPathways SA has released a Rural Suite of pathways tailored to rural and remote country SA, available now! Also, the Ageing Well in the Community Request for Proposal closes soon, 12 August.

HealthPathways SA releases Rural Health suite designed for country clinicians

HealthPathways South Australia is happy to announce the release of their Rural Health suite of pathways.

This suite of pathways is tailored specifically for rural and remote area general practitioners (GPs). It provides tools and resources to equip GPs and their patients with information about conditions and emergencies more commonly found outside metropolitan areas. These pathways offer GPs, allied health and other clinicians who are unfamiliar to rural life a comprehensive knowledge base to draw upon when working in regional SA.

The suite of rural pathways covers a range of topics, from animal-related injuries, chemical exposure, and hay fever, to where to access local support during adversities like droughts and bushfires. Each pathway has been developed as a national pathway to share knowledge between the states and has been adapted to reflect South Australia’s local health resources and services.

The Rural Health suite of pathways can be accessed by logging into HealthPathways South Australia. Access if free and open to all clinicians in South Australia.

HealthPathways SA supports the Lung Cancer Screening Program with a new pathway

HealthPathways South Australia has supported the development of a national pathway to guide general practitioners’ utilisation of the new National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP).

To help save lives from lung cancer and achieve better health outcomes for Australians, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing launched the new NLCSP on 1 July 2025.

Eligible Australians between 50 and 70 are offered free, low-dose CT scans as part of the national program to increase early detection of the disease.

The pathway offers a step-by-step assessment guide, with management and referral information to ensure clinicians are supported throughout the new process.

The pathway has been modified to reflect South Australia’s health system and resources and will be continually updated in a period to reflect changes to resource availability in our communities as the program gathers momentum.

You can log in and view the new pathway at HealthPathways South Australia. Access is free and open to all clinicians in South Australia.
