Supporting Stronger Rights in Aged Care: New Resources for Providers and Workers
The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is delivering a national public information program, “Choice, dignity, respect – older people’s rights in aged care,” to help older people, their families, and supporters understand the strengthened rights under the Aged Care Act 2024. To support this, the Commission has released an Engagement Toolkit for aged care providers and workers, particularly in residential care, with resources on residents’ rights, raising concerns, and the roles of providers and the Commission. The toolkit also includes ready-to-use materials to help providers share this information and ensure residents and their families feel informed, empowered, and confident to speak up. The Australian Government will introduce a second funding round for the Support at Home End-of-Life Pathway from early 2027. Currently, eligible older people can access up to $25,000 over 12 weeks (extendable to 16 weeks if funds remain). Under the new arrangement, those requiring ongoing care will be eligible for a consecutive second round of funding. This additional funding will provide a further $25,000 for at least 12 weeks, supporting continuity of care during a critical stage. Implementation will commence once the required legislation and digital systems are in place. More information
