At the SA Arid Lands Pastoral Field Day on March 20, 2025 in Port Augusta, three regional Registered Nurses - including a Nurse Practitioner - trained in skin cancer screening, collaborated with experienced dermoscopists to conduct 42 skin checks, identifying 24 lesions suspicious for skin cancer.
Dr. Gerry Considine from the Rural Skin Cancer Service was present to provide immediate follow-up care.
The fully booked service was warmly received by the community, with many participants expressing their appreciation.
Building on this success, the team will offer skin checks at the upcoming Yorke Peninsula Field Days in Paskeville from September 30 to October 2, 2025, supported by Country SA PHN.
