Reporting requirements for notifiable conditions have changed

The Communicable Disease Control Branch (CDCB) in the Department for Health and Wellbeing (i.e. SA Health) coordinates the public health response to most notifiable communicable diseases in South Australia – with the aim of minimising transmission and limiting morbidity and mortality.

New South Australian Public Health (Notifiable and Controlled Notifiable Conditions) Regulations 2025 (the new Regulations) came into effect on 26 June 2025, and contain important information for:

• medical practitioners,
• pathology services,
• persons authorised to vaccinate under the Vaccine Administration Code (including nurses, midwives and Aboriginal Health practitioners), and
• pharmacists who vaccinate.

The new Regulations under the South Australian Public Health Act 2011 represent best-practice protection of public health, based on available evidence, and are a direct result of significant earlier consultation by CDCB which achieved overall support for the changes.
