Falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths in Australia, with individuals living with dementia being twice as likely to experience a fall, often resulting in serious injury or early entry into aged care.
This workshop highlights the crucial role health professionals, particularly pharmacists, can play in falls prevention through medicine optimisation. Evidence shows that pharmacist-led interventions, such as the gradual withdrawal of psychoactive medicines, can reduce falls by up to 66% in people living with dementia.
