Country SA PHN’s Ageing and Palliative Care Team were pleased to receive and read the ‘Transforming Aged Care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’ report, by Andrea Kelly, the Interim First Nations Aged Care Commissioner.
The report focuses on findings and recommendations from her extensive Australia-wide travels and consultations in 2024, listening to Aboriginal and Torress Strait Islander older people, their families, peak bodies and many others on older peoples’ needs and experiences in aged care. The facts, figures, and powerful case studies share the impact of inequities and lack of culturally sensitive aged care provision.
Country SA PHN commissions a range of Aboriginal Health programs across country South Australia and remains committed to expanding and enhancing these efforts. We currently enjoy a close working relationship with programs at both the PHN and local level, such as the Elder Care Support Program funded by the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) and country South Australia care finder program.
