PalliLEARN aims to build community knowledge, death literacy, compassion literacy and community capacity in relation to serious illness, dying, death and grief by providing quality and easy to understand courses.

The way we care for our dying reflects the humanity and compassion of our society.  Through training, we can create resilience, understanding and capacity within our community, helping us care for our loved ones, families and friends.

What is Palliative Care? - Monday, 16 October 2023 | 11:00 am to 12:00 pm Palliative care is more than you think!  This one hour community education course explores what palliative care is in simple, community-friendly language.  It will introduce you to ten easy to remember aspects of palliative care, so you can improve your understanding and be able to describe it to others.

Your role in a compassionate community - Wednesday, 8 November 2023 | 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Compassionate Communities are networks of support around people experiencing serious illness, dying, death and grief.  This one-hour education course is for community members, groups and leaders to build their own skills and awareness around compassionate communities.  You will be introduced to how to nurture compassionate communities in your local area.

How to nurture compassion - Wednesday, 8 November 2023 | 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm Compassion is more than just a thought and more than a feeling.  Compassion involves doing something to reduce suffering.  This one-hour education course provides and overview of compassion and the concept in action.

How to have conversations about dying and grief - Tuesday, 14 December 2023 | 10:00 am to 11:00 am Conversations about dying and grief can be hard, but they’re important.  This one-hour education course provides practical tips on how to have caring and compassionate conversations with loved ones, colleagues, neighbours or friends about a stage of life we often avoid talking about.

Self Care - Thursday, 14 December 2023 | 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm You can’t pour from an empty cup.  This one-hour education course focuses on sharing hints and tips regarding self-care.

Who can attend?

The course is for all members of the community, and there is no requirement for training or experience within the health or palliative care space to attend.  While not directly targeted to health professionals, we welcome the attendance of everyone interested in these areas.
