Country SA PHN is pleased to fund a Lifeline Connect Centre for the Port Pirie community – the second in country South Australia. The walk-in centre is for people seeking to improve their social and emotional well-being and is an early intervention model for suicide prevention that aims to connect the community. The opening of the 79 Esmond Street centre this month was attended by our Executive Manager – Mental Health and AOD Strategy Chez Curnow and our Regional Suicide Prevention Coordinator Karen McColl. What is dementia?
Dementia is the term used to describe the symptoms of a large group of illnesses which cause a progressive decline in a person’s functioning. It is a broad term used to describe a loss of memory, intellect, rationality, social skills and physical functioning. There are many types of dementia including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia and Lewy body disease. Dementia can happen to anybody, but it is more common after the age of 65. Read more...

Urgent Update: Electronic Prescribing Service
The Department of Health and Aged Care has awarded Fred IT (the parent company of eRX Script Exchange) a four-year contract to supply the nation's new Prescription Delivery Service (PDS) after requests for tender closed in June 2022. Practices that are currently not using eRX Script exchange as their vendor to send electronic prescriptions will need to connect to eRX Script exchange to continue to do so before 1 October 2023. Targeted Regional Initiatives for Suicide Prevention Small Grants

Projects utilising grant funding should work to build on the lessons from the National Suicide Prevention Trials of 2016 to 2022 in regional and community-based suicide prevention, prioritising mental health and suicide prevention systems and initiatives responding to specific risk factors in each community. Expressions of Interest for After-hours training
CDM Plus will be holding face-to-face workshops and online webinars to cover content related to the use and implementation of after-hours processes in Residential Aged Care Homes in early 2024. The face-to-face training includes a full day of training providing practical learning and theory on the importance of after-hour processes and how to utilise after-hours support. Read more...

Building relationships with Dementia Australia
Helen Morley, Care Finder Lead at Country SA PHN, had the pleasure of presenting to 30 Dementia Australia client services staff from across regional and metro South Australia about the Care Finder Program. The audience comprised of their Dementia Support Specialists, Counsellors, Occupational Therapists and Clinical Nurse Consultants who were meeting together in Adelaide.
