Message from the Chair

On behalf of Country SA PHN - employees and the Board - I’d like to wish everyone a happy new year. I hope you were all able to spend some quality time relaxing with family and friends. As 2023 stretches out in front of us, full of promise and opportunity, it’s worthwhile taking the time to reflect on how each one of us can have a positive impact as individuals and as a collective. For me personally, this means in my immediate sphere with my family and friends, and as a member of the Roxby Downs community. In a professional capacity it’s caring for my community as a General Practitioner and as the Chair of the Board of Country SA PHN. Read more...

Greater Choice for At Home Palliative Care
Gather My Crew is an app designed by health professionals for patients who need help at home but don’t know how to ask for it.  The patient downloads the Gather My Crew app from the app store and sends an SMS invite to friends and family. The patient or a support person, then sets-up a list of tasks which are shared with the ‘crew’ via a shared calendar. A support crew member can then accept a task via the app and the patient is assured that they will have help with that task on the day eg transport to appointment. Read more...

Practice Network Meetings
The Primary Care & Digital Health Support Team will be holding the next remote Practice Network Meeting on Tuesday 14 February 2023 at 12.30pm. The meetings provide the opportunity for practice staff to be updated on Country SA PHN current activities and for practice staff to network and discuss issues and ideas with other general practice staff at a regional level. A Webex invitation will be sent to all practice managers soon.

Transition of the Australian General Practice Training Program
As part of the transition to a Service Australia payment system for AGPT training supports, the Commonwealth Department of Aged Care has provided information below for all eligible supervisors, practices, and Registrars. General practices will need to register online with Services Australia to be able to receive their training support payments from the beginning of 2023.  Read more...

New Pathways: Unsettled Infants and Babies & Faltering Growth
It is well established that the first thousand days of a child's life are significant for future wellbeing and development outcomes areas of concern for parents and caregivers, include 'unsettled' babies. HealthPathways have recently published two pathways (Unsettled Infants and Babies & Faltering Growth) that may be of assistance when supporting parents and caregivers. Read more...

Initial Assessment and Referral - Decision Support Tool Update
The Initial Assessment and Referral (IAR) is an initiative of the Commonwealth on establishing effective systems for the initial assessment and referral of individuals presenting with mental health conditions in primary health care settings. Country SA PHN has an IAR Training and Support Officer to provide training to general practitioners and clinicians to learn about, use and embed the IAR Decision Support Tool (IAR-DST) into clinical practice. Provider Connect Australia (PCA) is coming in 2023!
Country SA PHN's Primary Care and Digital Health Team are working with the Austalian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) during the PCA Pilot phase running from 1 November to 28 February 2023. Involvement in the pilot will provide the ADHA with valuable feedback and insights as providers use the product, to ensure PCA is fit for purpose and ready for national rollout to all health care providers in early 2023. Read more...

COVID-19 Respiratory PCR Self Collect
From Monday 9 January, SA Pathology will offer the option to self-collect a PCR swab for the detection of COVID-19 and respiratory pathogens influenza A & B, RSV, metapneumovirus, parainfluenza 1, 2 & 3, adenovirus, rhinovirus, Mycoplasma and Bordetella pertussis. Read more...

Change to notification advice for COVID antiviral treatment pathways

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker and Practitioner Mentor Program
The program provides guidance to health workers interested in diabetes education or wanting to know more about diabetes and the pathways for careers in that field. The program aims to upskill health workers and practitioners and reduce the burden that diabetes places on Aboriginal people. Read more...

Medicare Taskforce
The Strengthening Medicare Taskforce has finished the planned work schedule for 2022. This will incorporate recommendation from the National 10-year Primary Healthcare Plan to improve access to care and better utilise the skills of the primary care health workforce. Read more...

Multicultural Health Connect
Multicultural Health Connect is the first national helpline to help people in multicultural communities get health information and advice. The helpline is free and confidential, and run by workers from multicultural backgrounds. Read more...

National Cancer Screening Register
The National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR) has launched their new website. Design was informed from user experience, research, and testing carried out by a third-party users to improve navigating information and resources about the NCSR’s role in supporting the bowel and cervical screening programs, channels to interact with the NCSR, and privacy and security. Patient Assistance Transport Scheme’s fuel subsidy doubles
People living in regional, remote and rural areas who need to travel for medical treatment will now get more financial support to get to and from their specialist health appointments. The fuel subsidy for the Patient Assistance Transport Scheme – called PATS for short – has doubled from 16c to 32c per kilometre, effective for appointments from 1 January 2023. Read more...
