Message from the Chair

Dr Simon Lockwood

As Chair of the Board of Country SA PHN it gives me great pleasure to announce the launch of our new health and wellbeing initiative – the Rural Health Innovation Fund.

A first of its kind for Primary Health Networks, the Rural Health Innovation Fund (RHIF) offers an exciting opportunity to enhance country South Australians health and wellbeing. I would like to congratulate Country SA PHN CEO Mark Hartigan for his vision to create and support RHIF. The Fund is a stand-alone charity made possible by Country SA PHN who will enable RHIF to accomplish its vision for better health and wellbeing for all country South Australians.

I would also like to acknowledge my fellow Country SA PHN Board members who have embraced Mark’s RHIF vision. The Board is excited to see the innovative ways the Fund will enhance the health and wellbeing of country South Australians.

Country SA PHN is passionate about supporting rural communities by strengthening and encouraging innovative programs. RHIF will create positive change through supporting community-based initiatives that address the diverse health and wellbeing needs of our rural and remote communities.

RHIF is providing funding opportunities through grants for community led programs to drive health and wellbeing initiatives that support positive outcomes for country South Australians. As a charitable fund RHIF will strive to have a lasting positive impact on the health and wellbeing of South Australian rural and remote communities.

RHIF’s objectives are to:

  • Provide one-off funding for community-based projects targeted at innovative programs that support quality health outcomes for people living in country South Australia.
  • Enable grant recipients to drive health care improvements (outcomes and experience) for people living in rural and remote areas, through projects and initiatives that are effective, efficient, sustainable and in support of equitable access to care.

RHIF will provide an opportunity for those in our rural and remote communities to apply for grants for projects that don’t fit neatly into other funding boxes. We look forward to receiving a broad range of ideas and helping to bring them to life.

RHIF’s inaugural Grant round opens on Monday 3 April 2023 and closes 29 May 2023.

The Fund is offering opportunities for key stakeholders to partner with RHIF to further enhance positive outcomes for country South Australians.

Trudi Penrose-Starr is the RHIF Coordinator and is thrilled to be a part of this new and innovative opportunity.

“RHIF is here to listen to what is needed – to consider the community and provide a unique opportunity to support communities to achieve their goals through an annual funding round,” said Trudi Penrose-Starr, RHIF Coordinator.

“It’s an exciting time and I look forward to building relationships and growing RHIF, with others getting involved, partnering with us and supporting this great work to positively impact the lives of country South Australians now and into the future.”
