ScriptCheck SA Update

ScriptCheckSA is a clinical tool providing real-time monitored medicines prescription information for prescribers and pharmacists to support safer clinical decision-making.

Patient information contained in ScriptCheckSA is protected by law and can only be collected, used and disclosed for authorised purposes.

The Controlled Substances Legislation Controlled substances legislation | SA Health limits access to patient information in ScriptCheck SA only to a registered prescriber or pharmacist who is involved in the medical treatment or care of that patient and only for the purpose of ensuring that it is safe and appropriate to prescribe or supply a monitored drug. These confidentiality obligations are reiterated in the Terms of Use ScriptCheckSA Terms and Conditions of use   which prescribers and pharmacists must agree to (and accept) when registering for ScriptCheckSA.

Health practitioners’ access to patient records in ScriptCheckSA is logged and monitored by SA Health’s Drugs of Dependence Unit (DDU). 

If inappropriate use is detected, a health practitioner may face penalties up to $10,000 and/or the matter may be referred to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for further investigation and disciplinary action.
