Mental Health Month has been a time to reflect about our own mental health and the impact that we are having as an organisation on the lives of country South Australians.

As a society we are increasingly aware of the importance of recognising mental health. One in five Australians are affected by their mental health annually. The impact of COVID-19 has had a major and immeasurable impact on our mental health as a community, but the stories of resilience and connection in country South Australia are inspiring and remind us of the power of our collective efforts. HealthPathways SA: Elder Abuse and Neglect
A new pathway has been developed to support general practitioners and other health professionals identify potential cases of elder abuse and neglect. Elder abuse is wilful or unintentional harm caused to an older person by another person with whom they have a relationship of trust. Around one in 20 older Australians experience abuse from someone they know and trust, however this often remains hidden. Read More...

Country SA PHN GoShare Practice Registration
Country SA PHN is funding GoShare for 12 months for general practices to support quality improvement and preventive health activities within country SA. GoShare allows a practice staff member to send patients information embedded as a link in an SMS. It can increase patient understanding and motivation to participate in preventative health campaigns and quality improvement activities. Read More...

PenCS Awards
Congratulations Goolwa Medical Centre for being honoured by receiving the Patient Centred Care award at the PenCS Awards this month for their outstanding work in Heart Health and 45-49 Health Checks. 

Also, a special mention to Broughton Clinic who was also nominated for the PenCS awards in the outstanding work they provided in the Shingles Prevention GoShare trial and received a 64% response rate. Read More...

Vulnerable Population Vaccinations
Country SA PHN recently funded and supported a pop-up COVID-19 Vaccination clinics at the Navigating Aged Care Expo in Cummins and Tumby Bay on the Eyre Peninsula.  Stellar Health provided the clinic administering COVID boosters and providing advice on all immunisation queries. Read More...

Australia overall experiences a range of emergency events like 'natural disasters' including bushfires, floods, severe storms, earthquakes and landslides. These events cause great financial hardship for individuals and communities and can result in loss of life. Text to Detect: National Heart Health Check Recall Program
10 general practices in country SA registered for the Text to Detect National Heart Health Check Recall Program being  supported by Country SA PHN. Enrolled practices have commenced booking their baseline reporting appointments. During the baseline appointment Healthily, will step practices through the process of identifying eligible patients, sending of the recall message and collection of the baseline report that is being captured via an automated Cat4 report.

Palliative Care Program Update
We would like to introduce Sally Patten to the role of Palliative Care Lead for the ‘Greater Choice for At Home Palliative Care’ (GCfAHPC) measure. Country SA PHN is pleased to be supporting the Commonwealth-funded measure which has been provided to boost palliative care coordination and integration to support people who have a life-limiting condition, by improving choice and quality of care and support in the home. Read More...

SA COVID-19 Mental Health Support Line closure
The SA COVID-19 Mental Health Support Line is no longer operating as of Saturday 1 October. Your patients can access COVID-19 mental health and wellbeing support through the Beyond Blue Coronavirus Mental Wellbeing Support Service. Counsellors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling 1800 512 348 or using their online chat service.The SA Health COVID-19 Mental Health Support web portal also provides information on a range of other mental health support services and resources that can assist your patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

National Cervical Screening Program
Anyone eligible for a Cervical Screening Test under the National Cervical Screening Program (i.e., women and people with a cervix aged 25-74 years who have ever had any sexual contact) can choose to screen either through self-collection of a vaginal sample using a simple swab (unless a co-test is indicated), or clinician-collection of a sample from the cervix using a speculum.
