Message from the Chair

In 2020 Country SA PHN Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Kim Hosking, notified the Board that he would be retiring toward the end of his current term of office. Since that time, the Board has worked with Kim toward identifying: the requisite knowledge, skills, attitudes, and experience for a new CEO; the individual to best lead our team into the future; and the ideal succession process.

I am very pleased to announce that Mark Hartigan has been offered and accepted the role of Country SA PHN’s CEO, effective 1 July 2022. Read more...

Initial Assessment and Referral
In the 2021-2022 Budget, the Australian Government, through the Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan (the Plan) is expanding and implementing the Initial Assessment and Referral (IAR) tool in primary care. The IAR Guidance and Decision Support Tool (IAR DST) assists general practitioners and clinicians to recommend the most appropriate level of care for a person seeking mental health support. Head to Health Intake and Assessment phone service
The establishment of Head to Health (H2H) networks which aim to improve access to mental health services for adults. There will be two H2H centres in country South Australia, in Mount Gambier and Mount Barker. The network will also include a national Head to Health intake and assessment phone service (H2H phone service) to promote consistent triage and enable transfer and referral to the most appropriate services. Country SA PHN and Healthily with the use of GoShare Plus will use CAT4 to identify eligible patients to provide General Practices and Aboriginal Medical Services the opportunity to convey culturally appropriate video messages on the importance of being vaccinated against COVID-19. Read more...

Recently opened General Practice in Bordertown - Doctors at the Medical Hub
Dr Remona Pungutan has been working in Bordertown for 6 years and has recently opened her own medical practice. Current location is 21 Woolshed Street Bordertown.  This is an interim location until the Doctors at the Medical Hub building is complete, this building will be alongside the Bordertown Memorial Hospital. Remona is currently a solo general practitioner who will be supporting junior doctors to work at the Medical Hub whilst providing quality healthcare.

National Eating Disorder Collaboration
NEDC are excited to launch their newest online training Eating Disorder Core Skills: eLearning for Mental Health Professionals. The evidence-based, nationally recognised, and freely accessible training will equip mental health professionals with the knowledge and skills to identify when a person is experiencing an eating disorder, complete a comprehensive eating disorder assessment, refer to appropriate services in the stepped system of care, and understand the components of eating disorder treatment and recovery. CTG PBS Co-payment Program update
The Department of Health has issued a reminder about the registration grace period that allows First Nations people who are not correctly registered for the Closing the Gap (CTG) PBS Co-payment Program continued access to a reduced co-payment for PBS medicines covered under the program. Read more.

Continuation of SMS reimbursement for electronic prescriptions
The Department of Health, through the Australian Digital Health Agency, will continue to reimburse the cost of electronic prescribing SMS notifications to at least 30 September 2022. This includes reimbursement for both the original electronic prescription tokens through prescribing systems, and the cost of repeat tokens, generated through dispensing systems. Read more...

Heart Foundation Mind CVD project health professional survey
Mind CVD is a joint project between Heart Foundation, Stroke Foundation and Australian Centre for Heart Health which aims to ensure Australians have improved access to information and support for their psychological wellbeing during their recovery from a heart event or stroke.
